School History
Our History and Ethos
The school opened in 1966 and originally catered exclusively for children of Army families in the Garrison town. Mr Thompson, the first headteacher of the school, fought under Sir Bernard Montgomery during World War II serving in Italy and completing the Overload exercises. On appointment to headteacher at Montgomery Junior School, Mr Thompson sought approval from Sir Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, to use his Coat of Arms as the school badge. Sir Montgomery granted his permission and our unique logo was born from this and is still used today.
We are very proud of the diverse and vibrant make up of our pupil population, including our military connections. Today, we continue to maintain our close links with the Garrison community with approximately 50% of our pupils having family members currently serving, or have served in the British Armed Forces. We have a long and well-established reputation of working hard to support our service families and we are proud to be continuing with this tradition
